Today’s post means a lot to me. ShopStyle has partnered up with Dress for Success,an international non-profit organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence .  Today, along with other fashion bloggers, I am sharing what I wear that helps make me feel confident and the women in my life who have helped shape me into who I am today.

First, about the outfit. This dress screams power. A detail, like a cape, is sure to make any woman feel confident as if they can rule the world.  Lately, I have been quite obsessed with capes and I can’t get enough.  This little black dress has sophistication, style, and grace and it’s all those things that make me feel beautiful. The best thing about this dress is that anyone can afford it , at just under $25. Clearly a “divine” find, I must say..
A bright pump and a stand out accessory like these floral cluster studs make this look complete.

Although dressing the part can help boost confidence, I’ve also been blessed to have a solid foundation.  My family is comprised of mostly women. Strong, smart, loving, giving, and beautiful women.  I really owe my love for fashion and design to my late Grandmother, Jenny. She was the epitome of style and grace and was one of the a top seamstresses in the bridal department of the historic Bullocks Wilshire Department Store. I would visit her from time to time and I still remember the yards of lace, tulle, and satin. I would enter her sewing room at her home and dig through her collection of fabrics, threads, thimbles and various other sewing supplies. Even in her last years of life I still was in awe of her style and complimented her frequently and at the same time she looked at me in shock of my distressed jeans.  Wondering, why am I wearing jeans with holes in them?

I could go on and on about my Grandmother Jenny but there are many others in my life who have influenced me in other ways.  My other grandmother, Anahid, gave me the drive to succeed, working for over 35 years until her mid 80’s in the competitive jewelry district in downtown LA. My mother, Aida, taught me to be strong and to put family first. My sister, Lisa,  taught me to not be afraid of who I am and that I’m worth something. My aunt, Adriana, taught me to keep dreaming and my aunt, Seta, taught me to never give up.   I am beyond grateful for these ladies in my life.

Today and tomorrow, several bloggers will be contributing 10% of their sales from their blog to Dress for Success, and ShopStyle will match 100% of the contribution! This is an incredible organization and if you’d like to read more about it, click here.
